The Head of the Institution Speaks ....

It is a matter of great pleasure and proud privilege on my part to pen down a few lines about Lumding College , one of the oldest colleges in the State of Assam, a prestigious college with huge strength of staff and students in the District of Hojai which has been carving a niche in the domain of higher education since its inception.

Situated in the remotest corner of South-East Assam, established in 1959, the one and only higher educational institution in the Railway Town, Lumding, the College has been incessantly pursuing its noble mission of enlightening the dark corners of the minds of the people of greater Lumding area since its establishment till date.

I do express my heartiest thanks and gratitude to those noble and farsighted souls who honestly and sincerely thought about the establishment of such a higher educational institution to cater to the needs of thousands of learners of the region irrespective of class, caste, creed, language, religion and race.

A provincialized college, so long affiliated with Gauhati University, Guwahati and is about to go for being affiliated with Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai anew as per the notification of the Government of Assam, it has the privilege of having three streams- Arts, Science and Commerce, fetching students from far off places, backward areas and the tribal belts in both Higher Secondary and Undergraduate Courses. It has been engaged in philanthropic and ulterior activities for the uplift of the local society as well as the surroundings too.

Its contribution to the world of academics and its goal of fostering humane values among the learners coming from diverse backgrounds is unconditionally recognised by the conscious citizens of Lumding and Assam at large. The College is committed to impart quality education to the students and prepare good human resource in the process of nation-building. The College provides a golden opportunity even to the students of remote areas to study in Science Stream with good laboratory facilities at both H.S. and U.G. levels. The most importantly the learning outcomes of the students in academic, literary, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities is good enough to take pride in. The College is privileged to have the records of students securing top positions in final examinations and also in non-academic events too. Apart from that the placement of the passed-out students is quite encouraging and satisfactory.

The College was accredited with National Assessment and Accreditation Council two times i.e in 2004 and 2018 . Now it has already submitted its IIQA in this month of May and is preparing SSR to be submitted at the earliest for reaccreditation (3rd Cycle) of the College for which the work is on.

The College has to its own credit the Distance Learning facilities with the establishment of the Study Centre of K.K. Handique State Open University, (KKHSOU), catering to the genuine needs of the prospective learners, who have been deprived of pursuing higher education because of multifarious reasons. The College is making efforts to get the Learners' Study Centre (LSC) of IGNOU within no time at the initiative of the IGNOU Regional Centre, Jorhat, which will be the additional boon for the institution as it can disseminate higher education to a vaster community of learners, eager to pursue higher studies and apply for covetous jobs in different fields, simultaneously shouldering with the regular students.

Let the glorious journey of the College sustain, continue and flourish more and more with the goodwill and co-operation of its stakeholders and the society at large.
